The Founding
On Febr. 19th 1919 the company Etschel & Meyer is founded by Christian Etschel and Karl Meyer .
In 1928, Karl Meyer leaves the company as a partner by mutual consent. He dies in 1934. His name remains part of the company name to this day.
The idea of the own production of submersible pumps was realized in 1947 and WILO EMU Unterwasserpumpen GmbH was founded in 1949. The rising sales numbers necessitate the construction of new production halls in Hof in 1955.

The founding of additional companies
The next change of generation takes place in steps as from 1970, when Christian's grandsons start working in the management boards: Dr. Walter Etschel, Hermann Etschel, Rudolf Etschel and Helmut Etschel.
The opportunities resulting from German reunification lead to the establishment of the E+M Bohr und Brunnenbau GmbH branch in Leipzig in 1990.
His brother Gerhard, employed at WILO EMU Unterwasserpumpen GmbH since 1987, joins the management board there in 1993. They found additional companies in Germany and abroad and thus make an important contribution towards the Group's expansion.
The opportunities resulting from German reunification lead to the establishment of the E+M Bohr und Brunnenbau GmbH branch in Leipzig in 1990.

The WILO EMU GmbH is found
At the beginning of the year 2003 the Etschel & Meyer GmbH + Co KG sold its shares in the WILO EMU Unterwasserpumpen GmbH (founded in 1949) as well as its shares in the subsidiary company WILO EMU Anlagenbau GmbH, Hof, to the family company WILO SE, a joint stock company (= AG) not listed on the stock exchange.
Thus the WILO EMU-companies complete the product portfolio of the Wilo AG without clashing.
What both pump manufacturers do have in common is their high quality and innovation standard as well as the excellent synergies in the fields research and development to the benefit of their customers.
In order to combine the existing competence in the company regarding the communal markets – water supply and sewage disposal – we have decided to merge the three German contracting companies the WILO EMU Wasser- und Abwassertechnik GmbH in Roth, the WILO EMU Anlagenbau GmbH in Hof and the WILO EMU Anlagentechnik Nord GmbH in Hamburg and Woldegk to one contracting company. The new company’s name is: WILO EMU Anlagenbau GmbH.
Thus the WILO EMU-companies complete the product portfolio of the Wilo AG without clashing.

On May 1, 2005 the former company WILO EMU Unterwasserpumpen GmbH was renamed as WILO EMU GmbH. As guarantor of innovative quality products for municipal water supply and disposal.
In 2010 the WILO EMU GmbH and the WILO SE consulidate to WILO SE.
