A mini pump calculatorA slide rule in the IT age? The Wilo pump calculator facilitates complex calculations and is very easy to use. The newest version of the Wilo pump calculator is:
- hardly bigger than an envelope
- extremely easy to use
- ideal for making calculations on site
- ideal for configuring heating pumps in new installations
- and in existing heating systems
- up to date with current standards, guidelines and pump selection
How it works
A slide rule was the inspiration. Now you can calculate the optimum solution for your projects centimetre by centimetre
Calculating the flow
First the nominal head demand for the object is calculated. For this, the specific heat demand - according to the insulation standards for construction prior to 1982 to low energy construction in accordance with EnEV 2002 - and the heated surface are set.
This value and the desired temperature difference are used to determine the required flow.
Determining the delivery head
To determine the required delivery head, the pressure drop in the supply network is calculated. For this, you just need the length of pipe in the feed or return line. A specific pipe resistance is also calculated depending on the type of building.
Calculating pump output increases for cooling brines
A calculation function for cooling brine correction is also integrated. This is carried out if cooling brines with higher viscosity are used instead of water as a flow medium.
This area of the pump calculator can be used to determine the associated pump output increases as a function of the operating temperature and the type and composition of the flow medium used.
Selecting a heating pump
The data ascertained for flow Q and delivery head H is used to calculate the nominal operating point of the pump and/or pipe system.
The appropriate heating pump from the Wilo range can then be selected from the reverse of the pump calculator.
For this, a sliding surface - divided up according to pump category - depicts the performance curves of the "Wilo-Stratos" and "Wilo-Stratos ECO" high-efficiency pumps with energy label A, the "Wilo-TOP-E" and "Wilo-Star-E" controlled energy-saving pumps and the "Wilo-TOP-S" and "Wilo-Star-RS" uncontrolled standard pumps.
Save power with the pump slide
Pumps in German boiler rooms are, on average, three times larger than they need to be. With this in mind, Wilo recommends that, if a faulty pump is to be replaced, you do not just consult the replacement guide, but instead estimate a new configuration using the object and installation data.
This is when the pump calculator comes in handy...
