Inner Mongolia Shangdu Power Plant
Inner Mongolia, China, Asia
Inter Mongolia Shangdu Power Plant is a major supplier of electricity to northern china with its capacity of 8x600 MW. In its first two years of operation, the plant has generated 1.58 billion kWh of electricity. This project was nominated as one of the most important power suppliers for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
In the very first planning phase of Inner Mongolia Shangdu Power Plant, an intermediate pump station between Luan River and Shangdu Power Plant had been planned. Such kind of intermediate pump station on the grassland would increase a lot of additional costs, such as construction costs, operating costs, especially in winter and building road costs etc.
Wilo pump specialists provided our professional solution to optimize this plan.
We recommended using submersible pumps with high heads. Raw water, taken from Duolun Lake of Luan River, will be directly pumped into the reservoir of Shangdu power plant. 63 km long water supply pipes have been laid, using 5 Wilo-KM submersible pumps, flow 385 m³/h, head 285 m,rated power 465 kW, voltage 3KV.
So that we do not need to build the intermediate pump station any more. Enormous investment costs and maintenance costs have been saved. The difficulties of rear-service ensurance in winter for the intermediate pump station have also been solved. Furthermore, using high-voltage motor, the voltage is increased, the electric currents are decreased, so that the transmission line loss is reduced, which ensures our high efficiency and energy saving targets

88% hydraulic efficiency in the biggest vertical turbine pump in South Asia.
Anpara Power Station, Anpara, India
Energy is the basic unit of life. Humans, animals, plants – they all need energy – and they consume it. This is why the worldwide energy demand is continuously and rapidly increasing. Therefore, one of the most important jobs of technological progress is to use and produce energy more efficiently. The Anpara Power Station in India is one of the newest and also largest coal-fired power plants on the Asian continent. During the planning and completion, not only did economic efficiency play a major role, but also the ecological balance. To satisfy the gigantic cooling water demand of this 1,200 MW power plant, Wilo experts developed a new type of pump.
Five of these gigantic vertical turbine pumps are used to pump the cooling water. They each have a driving power of 3,400 kW and each pump 35,600 m³ of water per hour. At the same time, they are the largest cooling water pumps made of metal ever built in South Asia in the energy sector. But the greatest thing about them: Thanks to the experience with highly efficient hydraulics, the energysavings potential in this performance range is huge.

The entire system was designed for the specific requirements and large volumes of water. By using state-of-the-art materials and technologies, a sensational hydraulic efficiency of 88 % was reached.
Power plant Jaenschwalde
Jaenschwalde, Germany, Europe
In the year 2002 the GeWAP Peitz arranged for a complex reconstruction of the booster station for the power plant Jänschwalde. In case of a trouble in the process water system the station shall guarantee the peak demand of 1400 m³/d and 5.5 bar agreed by contract for the power plant. Besides the supply of the power plant and the neighbouring industrial site, the supply of the area Heinersbrück - abt. 5.5 km away from the station - must be guaranteed.
With the reconstruction 3 pumps and one reserve space were provided. The booster station was built in a way that the selected base load pump runs via a frequency converter. If the demand rises above 100%, the other pumps will be directly switched on progressively. Two reservoirs of 500 m³ each feed the station. To achieve approximately the same operating times of all three pumps, the base load pump will be manually changed during the control according to the operating hours.
