The digital era at Wilo

ISH 2017 Frankfurt

Dortmund / Frankfurt. "Wilo brings the future" - is the motto of the Dortmund based manufacturer of pumps and pumping systems at this year's ISH. "Digital transformation has arrived in our industry," explains CEO Oliver Hermes. "In Frankfurt, we will be showing visitors our smart solutions, solutions that connect our products with our customers and with Wilo. On our 1,200 m² stand, we will demonstrate the need to be a pioneer in the digital age by showing numerous product innovations that highlight our positioning."

ISH Frankfurt is industry leading for innovation
With the focus squarely on innovation, Hermes emphasizes the significance of ISH as the world's leading trade fair: "The 2,400 exhibitors expect around 200,000 visitors to attend this year’s ISH,” he says. “This major trade fair will allow us to access markets in more than 160 countries. ISH remains the most important exhibition worldwide for our business and is well out in front when it comes to innovation.”
For many years now, the Dortmund-based manufacturer of pumps and pumping systems has been one of the leaders in innovation in the HVAC industry: "For us, innovative leadership means always being one step ahead across technologies and being the first to bring innovations to the market,” continues Oliver Hermes. "This has been an important tradition for our company throughout its history.  Being the leaders in innovation spells out Wilo's claim in the digital age."

Wilo-Stratos MAXO – representing a new era in pump technology
The highlight of Wilo’s appearance in Frankfurt this year is clearly the Wilo-Stratos MAXO: "With this product, we are presenting the world's first truly ‘smart pump’ ," says Dr. Markus Beukenberg, Head of Technology at Wilo. "It is a completely new category of pumps, which goes far beyond our high-efficiency pumps or so-called intelligent pumps."
‘Smart pump’ does not only mean an advanced level of connectivity for control and direct online access to operating messages or setting operating conditions via an app, but much more, it means independent system optimization, thanks to the latest sensor technology and control functionality.
"We believe that because of the excellent levels of user-friendliness and the possibility of individual online configurability, the Wilo-Stratos MAXO truly defines a new era in pump technology," says Beukenberg.
Despite the fact that the MAXO has only just celebrated its world unveiling, the pump has already won its first award: "We are proud that the Stratos MAXO was awarded the ‘DesignPlus powered by ISH’ - the only product in the pumping industry to do this,” Beukenberg says with justifiable pride. “The award stands as a seal of quality for products characterized by their innovative design and efficient technology. We were able to convince the judges across all three of the award criteria," he says.

Digital customer dialogue
But it’s not only the pumping industry and its products that are becoming digital. Customer dialogue is also increasingly shifting to a digital format: "With advancing digitization, not only do the customer's requirements to the manufacturer's approach change, but the demands of companies in customer dialogue are also changing," explains Christian Kruse, Wilo sales manager DACH. “In order to keep the highest level of user-friendliness and continue to make life simple, Wilo is now combining its existing and its new tools into a brand-new website.”
"With the new consulting and configuration function, the 'Wilo Solution Finder', we are creating the most innovative pump consultancy tool in the industry," Kruse continues. "With the new online tool, we are concentrating on digital application consultancy, solution finding and individualization."
The 'Wilo-Solution Finder' will make dialogue with the customer much more individual in the future and allows Wilo to provide the customer with optimum levels of consultation digitally: "This tool ideally complements personal consulting and customer service through our external and internal services," explains Christian Kruse.

Wilo's digital strategy has set the course for the future
Wilo has set the course for the future and it is highly digital: "We have not just formulated a digitalization strategy. We are already in the middle of implementing it," emphasizes Oliver Hermes. "In particular, we focus on our customers and, in this context, we are also working on optimized processes in sales and production."
At the end of February, the company laid the foundation stone for the Wilo Campus Dortmund, ready to start operations in early 2019. The smart factory, a number of related buildings and an ultra-modern office building, will be constructed on a plot of 190.500 m2 and provide 1,800 workplaces in production and administration: “The Wilo Campus Dortmund with its future office areas and the Smart Factory is perhaps our most visible step into a digital future,” states CEO, Oliver Hermes. “Dortmund will be the number one digital location of the Wilo Group and will certainly set new standards in the pump industry.”
